Integrative cognitive and behavior therapy in south london
Hello, my name is Olivera. I'm an experienced psychologist and psychotherapist, registered with the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic, but it is primarily based on cognitive behavioral therapies. I use rational emotive behavior therapy and cognitive therapy as a foundation and complement them with tools from third-wave cognitive behavioral therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness, while also incorporating elements from other therapeutic approaches. In my work, I focus on how our thoughts and beliefs shape our reality and on helping people untangle and better understand the complex connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. While paying close attention to how our past has shaped us, we will work to understand how to live more fully in the present.
I also have extensive experience working with people who have been through traumatic experiences, and I place great importance on trauma-informed care. I am trained in Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) that is used with people who have experienced complex or multiple trauma.
This diverse range of therapeutic approaches enables me to tailor a unique approach to each person's individual needs.

Individual psychotherapy, also known as one-on-one therapy, is a space where you can work directly with a trained psychotherapist to navigate life's challenges. Through regular sessions, you’ll have the opportunity to explore your thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a safe, supportive environment.
Think of it as a collaborative journey toward emotional well-being. Together, we will develop personalized strategies to help you manage difficulties, build resilience, and enhance your overall mental health.
-
Couples therapy provides a supportive environment where you and your partner can work together with a trained therapist to strengthen your bond, improve communication, and navigate challenges. It’s not about fixing the other person, but about gaining a deeper understanding of where, as a couple and as individuals, you may be stuck. It’s a space to slow down, reflect, and develop a new way of relating—one that fosters curiosity, vulnerability, and real connection.

Insights into how I work
The foundation of successful psychotherapy lies in the relationship we build together. This means creating a safe and respectful environment where you feel valued. I believe in a collaborative approach, where you are the expert on your own life, and I act as a guide and source of support, utilizing my theoretical knowledge and tools to assist you on your journey. For me, the therapeutic relationship is an authentic encounter that can create space for a safe and genuine exploration of your experiences.
I believe in three key areas when working on the individual level: cognitive, emotional, and behavioral. These areas are interconnected and influence each other. Additionally, we will frequently look into broader systems, such as your family and society, to understand how interactions with them have shaped our beliefs and understanding of the world. My approach focuses on the present moment, but I also recognize the importance of understanding your past to prevent repeating patterns from defining your present. I deeply believe that self-understanding empowers you to achieve greater freedom. By exploring past experiences, we can change your relationship with yourself, others, and the world, allowing you to develop new behaviors rooted in knowledge and autonomy.
It is also very important to me to understand your past stressful and traumatic experiences, which are often overlooked by others including our partners, our families, our colleagues and even the health care system. I advocate for trauma-informed approaches that acknowledge the impact of trauma on your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By providing a safe space to process these experiences, you can begin your healing journey and move beyond defining yourself by them. I firmly believe that post-traumatic growth is possible for everyone with right support.
Throughout my career, I've worked in diverse contexts with people from various ethnicities, cultures, and backgrounds, including active war zones and post-conflict environments. Witnessing people find meaning even in the face of immense adversity has been a constant source of inspiration for me.
Seeking professional support is a courageous act. I assure you that I will treat you with respect and appreciation. I would be honored to be part of your healing journey and walk alongside you on this path.
